Old news, about Robert-Bates names new ECD
Singapore - Bates has appointed Robert Gaxiola as its new Executive Creative Director, ending the five month search for the right person to fill the role left by Petter Gulli, who departed the agency in July to return to his native Norway. Gaxiola -- who assumes his duties in October or November -- will be responsible for the day to day creative leadership on the Nokia, Heineken and Audi accounts and will work closely with Shanghai-based Regional Creative Director Norman Tan. Gaxiola reports directly to Managing Director and International Business Director Peter Skalberg.
“One of the biggest challenges for any new ECD is to establish some common ground with the people around him, and this is just as important on the client side as it is in my own agency,” Gaxiola told Marketing Weekly. “I want to create some of the best work of my career and I'm sure Bates does too, but ultimately, defining a new measure of 'great' will be the biggest challenge for all of us -- I'm really looking forward to my first day at work.”
“The creative task and role at Bates requires a number of unique core skills -- the ability to develop creative work for international, regional and local clients from the Singapore office,” Skalberg told Marketing Weekly. “Rob has the experience and skills to take on this role and with the help of the existing creative department deliver outstanding work -- under Rob’s creative leadership and experience, we hope to make Bates Singapore one of the best performing advertising agencies in the country.”
Gaxiola joins the agency after five and a half years at Foote Cone & Belding -- under his leadership, FCB Singapore became the most awarded FCB office in the world with over 150 international and regional awards, and the agency’s CCA ranking was strengthened from 17 to two. Gaxiola has also handled clients such as Citibank, Sony, adidas, SingTel, Epson, Samsung, SC Johnson, Compaq and Singapore's Health Promotion Board in his career. Prior to joining FCB, Gaxiola was Copywriter at Young & Rubicam.

One day, Two posters.
Part time assignment from Anthon. Chinese traditional style, poster for CNY, vector, hand drew.
1. Sketch it up. I decided to use the lion-dance theme coz it's 100% Chinese style, and, there is a kind of competition called "Cai Qing", in which those lions are trying to climb up a ladder in the centre of the playground to fetch a scoll placed at the top of the ladder, the one who gets it will have luck and fortune for the next whole year.
2. I don't have a scaner so I just shot it and transfered in into my computer. Open Freehand, start to outline the lion head.
3. Fill up the closed areas, I call it colorize.
4. Add some shadow to some areas too make it look more 3D-like, detailize the entire head.
5. The complete work, hope Anthon will like it:)
The breif said they need two variations, so I created anthoer one.
